What is a calling card ?

It is a prepaid card, used for making cheap international telephone-calls, mostly over an IP (Internet Protocol) network, avoiding the high costs traditional telecom carriers apply. You can buy the cards in denominations of $5, $10, or $20 USD. On purchase, you will get a PIN number, a toll-free telephone-number to use the PIN, and customer service telephone number for each card. If you use it until it has either no credit or has expired, you may recharge (and keep your old PIN) or buy a new card (and get a new PIN).

Note that there are two kinds of calling cards: plastic ones which we sell in outlets in theUSA and Thailand, and internet cards. The plastic cards have the PIN under a scratch surface. The Internet cards have a so-called virtual PIN code, which you will receive via Email, together with the access numbers.

Why should I use calling card ?

There are many advantages of calling cards over normal long-distance call service:
1. Cheapest call rate to Thailand. With one-fixed low rate 24/7, you can make a call anytime.
2. Convenience. You can use it on any phone, anywhere.
3. Budget Control. Lower your monthly postpaid international phone bills, by using this prepaid service which gives you maximum insight in calling costs.

How do I choose a calling card ?

Not sure about which calling card to choose? Confused with all the complex math that goes into calculating your calling rate? Read on for a step-by-step approach to help you choose the best calling card for you.

1. Research the card of interest to you. Before purchasing, it is a good idea to check out the "details" link next to the card of your choice.

2. Study the rate offered.  When you choose a very cheap prepaid phone card, it is usually associated with more hidden charges. You need to pay attention to several common hidden charges, or the card can turn out to be a lot more expensive than you bargained for. Following are the common hidden costs you need to look for:

  • Connection Fee: Also called first-minute surcharge. A connection fee is the additional fee imposed by the telephone company every time you use your phonecard to make a call. It varies between 25 cents to as high as $3. Connection fees add tremendously to the per minute cost of the call. If you encounter a call drop and have to redial the number you will be charged connection fee all over again.
  • Disconnection Fees: Be wary of disconnection fees, which works pretty much the same way as connection fees but are charged when you hang up. Also known as hang up fees.
  • Maintenance Fee: Maintenance fees are deducted from your card without you even making a call! These fees are assessed on a monthly, weekly, or even daily basis. Some phone cards will start to charge a maintenance fee either when the first phone call is connected or after the first phone call is finished. It could be as high as $1.50, so check it out, too.
  • Communication Fee: Certain phone cards charge a communication fee up to 25% of the phone call's cost.This makes the rates to be 25% more expensive in reality. The advertised total minutes looks more attractive because this fee is usually applied after the call is finished
  • Long Talking Fee: Certain phone cards charge this fee that's rarely known to lots of customers. If the customer talked for more than 20 mins, 40 cents will be charged for every 20 minutes talking time. This equals to 2 cents more per minute.
  • Multiple Minute Rounding: Multiple minute rounding means you pay for more minutes that you actually spoke.  For example, if you spoke for 6 minutes, some cards will charge you based on "5 minute rounding" and charge you for a 10-minute call! This brings your effective rate per minute up, because you must calculate paying for those added minutes that you did not use! Industry standard is one minute rounding, as in the case of your residential telephone services.

3. Consider the expiration period; this can very between 1 month and 1 year.

4.  Consider where you are calling to. Most of the calling cards offer differential rates for different cities. Also they have different rates for calling to a landline or calling to a wireless (mobile) phone. You would often find people carrying 5-6 calling cards on them to call to different cities .

How do I use my calling card ?

1. Dial the 'access number' (usually toll-free/free phone or local) number from any touch-tone telephone. The access numbers are shown on our website, and also in the email you received.
2. At the voice prompt, enter your PIN number (which you received via email).
3. At the next voice prompt, enter your destination phone number.
4. Just before the actual call, you are informed via Voice Response for how many minutes are allowed to call.

Did my purchase go through?

 

When you submit an order;  you will receive two emails from us. One is the confirmation of your order with SawasdeeTalk.com, which will contain your invoice no. The other is a PIN-mail,which will be sent to you separately. For new customers there is credit card verification step which takes 20 minutes, while existing customers will receive the PIN immediately.

Can I cancel an order that I placed?

If you are not satisfied with our products or services, please contact support@sawasdeetalk.com. If you want to cancel the order before we send you a PIN number, you will get a 100% refund. The card will expire within 1-12 months from date of first use (depending on the expiration period of the card). How long does it take to get the pin code?

If you are a new customer and pay by credit card and your credit details are verified, you can get PIN code within 20 minutes (these 20 minutes are needed for credit card-verification).

If you are an existing customer you will get your new PIN or recharge confirmation immediately.
When you are a new customer and you order by check, it takes 5-7 business day, After we process your check, we will send you a pin no. within 24 hrs. by e-mail.

I did not receive or loose my PIN, what do I do?

Please visit the My Account page, go to the respective order, order details, and click the button resend PIN; you will receive the PIN via email.

 What is the Broadband  Phone and how does it work?

The Broadband Phone(SIP Phone) is designed to provide you with the same direct local and long distance service, but without the help of your local phone company.

Instead, everything will be handled by a phone adapter that will be sent to you, and your calls will go through your broadband internet connection. That is why having a broadband internet connection is essential - cable or DSL. The service will not be working through a satellite based internet.

The greatest advantages are the significant savings that come with skipping the local phone company and the multitude of extra features at no additional cost that come with the service.

 

 

Do I need a new phone?

You can use an existing traditional telephone with an Analog Telephone Adapter. These adapters work with regular phones, cordless phones, phone systems, and PBX's. Of course, there are numerous Broadband Phone compatible IP phones on the market with every imaginable  feature.To  start  using  our  service, you  have to  buy our  Broadband  Phone(equipments  from  other  providers  are not allowed). SawasdeeTalk offers competitively priced ATA's and IP telephones. Quick Setup

Setting up your Broadband Phone service is fast and easy (no technical expertise is required). The entire process takes less than 10 minutes.

  1. Connect the free Broadband Phone Adaptor to your home router.
  2. Plug in an analog phone (any phone, even a cordless one) to the adapter.
  3. Plug the adapter into a power outlet.
  4. Complete the online broadband telephone "Setup Wizard" in the Member Center .

Making and Receiving Calls is Easy

SawasdeeTalk Broadband Phone works just like your regular phone. To make a call, you simply pick up your telephone (you will hear a dial tone) and then you dial any number worldwide. For incoming calls, your phone rings and you pick it up to answer the call. The person you are calling or the person who is calling you does not have to be connected to the Internet.

What's different than my regular telephone?

In more technical terms, SawasdeeTalk uses the free phone adapter to convert your voice from an analog signal to a digital signal. The digital signal is sent over your Broadband Internet connection. This process is sometimes referred to as Voice Over IP (VoIP) or Internet Telephony. Other companies may refer to Broadband Phone as Digital Phone, Internet Phone, VoIP Phone or Web Phone.

How good is the quality of this service?

 

You would get the same quality as your current phone service.Most local phone companies have already switched to this technology. The quality of the service will largely depend on the speed and traffic of your internet connection. For most broadband internet services you would see no difference.

 

What kind of Internet connection do I need to have before I order the Broadband  Phone service?

 

Because your voice will be transmitted through your Internet connection, you need to have a broadband Internet set up before you order the Broadband Phone service.
Cable or DSL Internet service is recommended for best quality. Dial-up or satellite internet will not work with the Broadband Phone.

 

Can I use a FAX, Modem, Credit Card Terminal with your Service?   

 

FAX and MODEM transmissions are very sensitive, and we are NOT recommending heavy fax users. A small .blip. or delay that wouldn't even be noticed in a voice conversation can cause a fax or modem transmission to terminate prematurely. If you have a good quality Internet connection and send/receive an occasional fax you should be OK. Modem and Credit Card Terminals can be sensitive too. We can't guarantee these will work with your VoIP Service.
